HAPPY HOLIDAYS
FROM JEFF BUCKLEY MUSIC

PEYOTE RADIO THEATRE
FEATURED ARTIST: PETE PIDGEON

****************************************************************************

LAUNCH PEYOTE RADIO THEATRE

Peyote Radio Theatre current featured artist is Pete Pidgeon. Recognized in five categories in the first round of voting for the 2012 Grammy Awards, Pete Pidgeon’s “credibly original approach,” as stated by Rolling Stone contributor Jesse Jarnow, is rooted in stories of perseverance and overcoming struggle – reflections of Pete’s true-life experiences – designed to uplift the listener as much as his own spirit. Pidgeon believes that nothing is impossible and no goal is too lofty – proven by his collaborations with Grammy and Platinum Record recipients Levon Helm (The Band), David LaBruyere (John Mayer), Nikki Glaspie (Beyoncé) and Fareed Haque (Sting).

Jack Bookbinder, former member of Jeff Buckley’s management team, recognizes Pete’s passion and has advised him since discovering his talents at the 2008 Jeff Buckley Tribute Concert in New York City, a performance Jack described as, “Amazing.” Jack recalls he was “struck by Pete’s jaw-dropping vocals and approach to artistry reminiscent of the Lower East Side’s Cafe Sin-e-era scene.” Similarly, Jambands.com elaborates, “Pidgeon’s singing chops have always set him apart from the pack … he displays a simply fearless mastery of feel-the-note-and-it-will-come vocals.”

Pete’s lyrics and “acute songwriting prowess,” as described by Relix Magazine, have been recognized by the Sony BMG and Tompkins Square labels, FOX Television, MTV, BET and The Blue Man Group who hired Pete as a band member at Boston’s Charles Playhouse. Pete’s music has been placed in films that have won awards at the Boston International Movie Festival, Los Angeles Reel Film Festival, Boston International Movie Festival, Bare Bones Film Festival and Honolulu Film Festival.

Radio airplay on 238 international stations, including a #3 college radio peak, support from core stations KEXP (Seattle) and WERS (Boston) and placement on WKZE’s “Top 10 Indie Releases of The Year” has resulted in worldwide exposure.

Based in New York City, Pidgeon frequently performs at Lower East Side staples Rockwood Music Hall, The Living Room and Arlene’s Grocery, the later two of which he has filled. U.S. tours from Boston’s House of Blues to L.A.’s Hollywood Boulevard and Nashville’s famous Bluebird Café have given rise to physical cd sales in North America and internationally on iTunes and Amazon.

Pete’s current EP “Growing Pains” was recorded at Sony Studios in Nashville, with a rhythm section of bassist David LaBruyere (John Mayer) and drummer Steve Brewster (Jewel) and debuted at #9 on the college radio charts. Grammy-winning engineer Eric Gorman (Herbie Hancock) mixed the three-song collection. The music video for the first single, “Will,” stars Danish actress/ Chanel model Kristina Korsholm and Ford model Lasse Larsen and was shot by Sundance Film Festival Nominee Ryan Dickie. The short film, produced and directed by Pidgeon, unapologetically confronts the currently rampant societal issues of suicide and relationship abuse.

Giving back to the community, Pete volunteers with addiction-addled teens at the New York City-based organization Road Recovery. Pete, now sober, proclaims, “Coming from a similar background, it is enriching to contribute in ways that improve the mental and physical health of so many through the medicine of music.”

Any tribute night at Uncommon Ground always starts with amazing, local, organic food (and wine). The pumpkin ravioli is a part of the ritual for me, and the one year they didn’t offer it just felt wrong. According to our server, I was not the only guest who protested that decision. For a first course there is a choice of Sunshine Salad, Korean chili-spiced fried calamari or vegetarian chili. Then for the second course, if you’re not into the pumpkin ravioli, they also offer bacon wrapped meatloaf or fried Lake Superior walleye. Desserts are all homemade and include Intelligentsia cappuccino pot de crème, s’mores tart or banana cream pie. Uncommon Ground serves Intelligentsia coffee, and it is delicious!Owner Michael Cameron announces that the new music room we are sitting in was completed about a week ago, and that he played 8 hours of Jeff’s music when the room was done just to make sure it was perfect. The current Uncommon Ground is a far cry from the quaint little coffee shop where Jeff played his first 2 Chicago shows there in February 1994. They have added on several times due to the demand for seating. This was the first time Michael did not book the musical acts, leaving this up to Rachele Eve Guastella, employee and past tribute performer.

Proceeds of this event benefit the Old Town School of Folk Music’s scholarship fund. http://www.oldtownschool.org/

SHARING THE GOLDEN PROMISE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

Holiday Message From Mary

********************************************

Dear Friends:
Yesterday, I spent the entire day with my grandchildren making cookies, decorating, and dancing to holiday music. It brought tears to my eyes to see their smiles and hear their laughter. There’s just something about the sight and sound of our children’s smiles and laughter that makes life worthwhile. Any parent, or anyone who loves a child knows what I mean.

It also reminded me of the countless children, who, for the lack of a $250 surgical procedure, are treated like hideous monsters, unable to attend school, marry, or have a normal life. It has become our custom, at this time of year, to retell the meaning of “The Golden Promise”. This year, I’d like to suggest that you consider giving your support to an organization that repairs cleft pallets for poor children (and grownups!) all over the world. The Smile Train uses 100% of your donation to pay for the procedures. In just 30 minutes, they change the life of a child from condemnation and deformity to hope and beauty. The feeling of satisfaction you get from being a part of that miracle is priceless. Please, read more, below.

Wishing you and yours the warmest and most loving Holiday Season ever.
M.G.

Smile Train: Vision & Mission

Every child born with a cleft anywhere in the world has the opportunity to live a full, productive life.

Clefts are a major problem in developing countries where there are millions of children who are suffering with unrepaired clefts. Most cannot eat or speak properly. Aren’t allowed to attend school or hold a job. And face very difficult lives filled with shame and isolation, pain and heartache. Their clefts usually go untreated because they are poor – too poor to pay for a simple surgery that has been around for decades. We empower local doctors in developing countries by providing free surgical training and education. Provide free cleft lip and palate surgery for hundreds of thousands of children around the world.

SMILE PINKI, the captivating story of a desperately poor little girl in rural India whose life is magically transformed when she receives free surgery to correct her cleft lip has received the Academy Award for “Best Documentary Short” in 2008.
