Friday, November 17th, would be Jeff Buckley’s 51st birthday, during the 20th anniversary year of his afterlife since his untimely passing in 1997.

In a concert blessed with a seal of approval from Jeff Buckley Music, we will remember, celebrate, and relive the artist’s work with an intimate evening filled with tribute performances by a diverse range of talented independent musicians. Confirmed performers include Abby Ahmad, Raka Banerjee, Brooklyn Raga Massive, Chris Carrigain of Deep Sea, Church of Betty Trio, Brian Collazo of BSKi, FloodWaves, Mike Horn of FloodWaves, Sophie Lam, Mark Lesseraux, On The Sun, Liliana Rose, Curtis J. Social, Margaret Tran, and Lily Virginia, plus surprise guests waiting in the wings!

Thrilled to have secured Shapeshifter Lab of Brooklyn for this event – a crisp, softly lit, open-plan, ADA-compliant venue with 3,600 square feet of space in which to browse house art, enjoy refreshments, and peruse performers’ wares while enjoying the music.

The address is 18 Whitwell Pl, Brooklyn, NY 11215, between 1st and Carroll Streets in Gowanus. If not arriving by car or bicycle, one can get there by taking the R train to Union St. station or the F/G trains to Carroll St, Smith & 9th St., or 4th Av.-9th St. stops.

7:30 p.m. doors, 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. show, with a short intermission.

Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase at a bar staffed by the venue.

Proceeds from this event will go to these amateur/independent/fabulous artists, as well as to the Deanna Maran Foundation for Non-Violence, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded by my friend in college and her siblings after their youngest sister Deanna “Lala” Maran was killed in an act of preventable party violence at a high school party in West Los Angeles on November 17th, 2001. Lala will be in her 16th year in the afterlife on this night, and I can’t think of a better way to honor her impact than to support the foundation, which funds teachers’ initiatives, curricula, and special programs that promote non-violent conflict resolution among diverse American youth. For now, services are largely geared towards the Southern California area, but has the ability to expand as support continues and grows. There seems to be a stronger need than ever before to sow seeds of non-violence in local and national programs, and I think that this cause is apropos given the unspeakable tragedies that have popped up all over our country over the past few years, often times in our schools. There will be collection stations at the venue, too, for additional donations by cash, check, money order, PayPal, Venmo, or credit/ATM card if you are so moved.

It will be a beautiful, tender night. See you music lovers soon – bring everyone you know and care about.
